Benue LG elections: Aspirant alleges plot to truncate legal battle BY PETER DURU MAKURDI – A former All Progressives Congress, APC, local government chairmanship aspirant in Gwer West local government of Benue state, Mr. John Wasega has alleged plot by his party to truncate the case he filed at a Makurdi Magistrate Court challenging the victory of Mr. Francis Ayagah at the last local government elections in the state. But in a swift reaction, the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Alfred Berger said the allegation was baseless and unfounded adding that the party was not aware of the litigation. Berger told Vanguard that “our party cannot be involved in such acts, moreover if he has a valid case nobody is stopping him from seeking redress, he should desist from dragging our party through the mud.” The aspirant In the letter of complaint made available to Vanguard in Makurdi titled “a case of criminal conspiracy, fraud and dishonestly receiving money contrary to section 97, 17 and 122 of the penal code” had alleged plots by his party and some individuals to have the case thrown out of court. The former aspirant who lamented that the move would amount to a breach of his fundamental human right threatened to petition the National Judicial Council (NJC) over the matter. According to him “both the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are also currently investigating the matter.” The post Benue LG elections: Aspirant alleges plot to truncate legal battle appeared first on Vanguard News. from Vanguard News http://ift.tt/2tB3HlW via Naijapounds
