Aisha’s comments: Senate, Afenifere, others express concern By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor, Henry Umoru, Dapo Akinrefon, Charles Kumolu, Levinus Nwabughiogu & Dirisu Yakubu LAGOS—The metaphoric depiction of hyenas and jackals riding roughshod over other animals is reflective of a divided Presidency, the Senate, Afenifere, and stakeholders from across the country said, yesterday. Among those who joined the Senate and Afenifere to comment on the metaphorical anecdote shared between First Lady Aisha Buhari and Senator Shehu Sani were erstwhile presidential spokesman, Mr. Akin Oshuntokun; human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and some members of the House of Representatives. They spoke in reaction to the Facebook exchange between Senator Sani and Mrs. Buhari. Sani had in his first comments, noted that in the absence of the lion, hyenas and jackals had taken over the kingdom, trampling the lesser animals with the hope that the sleeping lion does not return. Mrs. Buhari had responded to the comment on Monday,  saying the hyenas and the jackals would be sorely disappointed as she said the lion would soon return and throw them out of the kingdom. By last night, Mrs. Buhari’s comments on Facebook had drawn more than 1,700 likes and 400 comments. Reacting to the brouhaha, Senate spokesman, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, told Vanguard, yesterday, that Mrs. Buhari was in a good position to analyse the situation in the country and that the use of the animals as metaphors to describe the scenario was most appropriate. He said: “The metaphor of hyena and jackal as used by the wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari, is right and it represents the reality on the ground. Jackal is the good hunter, while Hyena is the bad hunter. Some people in the government are in this group, as enunciated by the wife of the President; the hyena waits for the very good hunter to steal the food from them. Presidency needs to put its house in order—Afenifere On its part, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, said the exchange showed a divided Presidency and called on it to put its house in order. Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin who spoke for the group, said:  “It is clear we have a divided Presidency, given the statement of the First Lady and snippets that have been coming from the villa. They have to put their house in order, so they can govern the country and create stability and confidence in the system.” It shows disharmony, division within the Presidency —Osuntokun In his comments, Mr. Akin Osuntokun, who served as Political Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the remarks showed disharmony within the Presidency. He said: “Long before now, everyone knew that there was disharmony and division within the Presidency. That is the meaning of the crisis over the non-confirmation of the appointment of acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu. “A situation where fellow security staff of the President write to contradict the recommendation of their principal is proof. What is going on with this Presidency is beyond comprehension, it borders on the ridiculous and the primitive.” Chief Ozekhome, on his part, said the outburst showed that Mrs. Buhari was fed up with the antics of what she described as a powerful clique that had succeeded in hijacking her husband and the Presidency. “What she meant by that metaphor is that a lot of meddlesome interlopers are surrounding her husband in the form of a powerful cabal. In any kingdom, there can be only one king or oba or emir. She is saying that in the fullness of time, the head of the kingdom would return to take charge and the interlopers would be scattered.” Buhari is indeed surrounded by selfish people —Tsav On his part, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, a retired commissioner of police said: “What she has said justifies the reports about the power struggle in the Presidency. I admire her courage. A woman who loves her husband will not allow her husband to be destroyed. Buhari came in with good intentions, but he is surrounded by people who don’t have his kind of vision.’’ Kingsley Chinda, PDP, Obio Akpor Fed Constituency, Rivers State on his part, urged the first lady as the mother of the nation to embrace both the jackals and the hyenas because they are all her children. Abiodun Famurewa, APC, Osun on his part, said the first lady’s declaration “was a statement of fact because going by what we have seen since 2015 as some people hijacked power. He said:  “She knows that some of them in the corridors of government were not even members of the party; they surprisingly came from nowhere and hijacked power from the husband.  I want to believe she is sending a signal to those strange people.’’ The post Aisha’s comments: Senate, Afenifere, others express concern appeared first on Vanguard News. LAGOS—The metaphoric depiction of hyenas and jackals riding roughshod over other animals is reflective of a divided Presidency, the Senate, Afenifere, and stakeholders from across the country said, yesterday.

Presidency needs to put its house in order—Afenifere

On its part, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, said the exchange showed a divided Presidency and called on it to put its house in order.

Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin who spoke for the group, said:  “It is clear we have a divided Presidency, given the statement of the First Lady and snippets that have been coming from the villa. They have to put their house in order, so they can govern the country and create stability and confidence in the system.”

It shows disharmony, division within the Presidency —Osuntokun

In his comments, Mr.

What is going on with this Presidency is beyond comprehension, it borders on the ridiculous and the primitive.”

Chief Ozekhome, on his part, said the outburst showed that Mrs.

She is saying that in the fullness of time, the head of the kingdom would return to take charge and the interlopers would be scattered.”

Buhari is indeed surrounded by selfish people —Tsav

On his part, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, a retired commissioner of police said: “What she has said justifies the reports about the power struggle in the Presidency. I admire her courage. A woman who loves her husband will not allow her husband to be destroyed. Buhari came in with good intentions, but he is surrounded by people who don’t have his kind of vision.’’

Kingsley Chinda, PDP, Obio Akpor Fed Constituency, Rivers State on his part, urged the first lady as the mother of the nation to embrace both the jackals and the hyenas because they are all her children.

I want to believe she is sending a signal to those strange people.’’
