PDP Sacretariat on fire as Modu Sheriff storms to take over

Erstwhile chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as early as 7am on Monday stormed the National Secretariat of the opposition party to take over the affairs of the party as its national chairman
.

Sheriff, some aides and supporters attempted to enter the Wadata Plaza secretariat but were prevented from doing so by security personnel.

Speaking with journalists outside the party’s headquarters, Sheriff said that his mission at the complex was to, “resume officially and takeover,” adding that he was at the Secretariat to resume duty because until the subsisting court cases were dispensed with, he remains the National Chairman.
It would be recalled that the former Borno governor was the party’s chairman before the party’s national convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on May 21.

Before leaving the Rivers State capital that day, he announced the cancellation of the convention, citing court orders. However, other leaders of the party went ahead with the convention and also announced his sack and the appointment of a caretaker committee headed by former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi.
