Ife crisis: Ooni, Emir of Kano witness Dangote’s N50m donation By Gbenga Olarinoye Osogbo—The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, yesterday, urged wealthy Nigerians to use their wealth to assist the less privileged in the country. The two monarchs spoke in Ile-Ife, Osun State, at a ceremony held in the Ooni’s palace where cheques worth N50 million were given to victims of the March 8 Ile-Ife crises between the Hausa and their Yoruba hosts. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano Specifically, Emir Sanusi said the manner Ooni Ogunwusi managed the crises prevented it from escalating to other parts of the country, adding that immediately the crises started, Ooni contacted and briefed him and Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar. He commended Ooni Ogunwusi for his proactiveness and the fatherly role he has been playing to everyone in his domain and beyond. The royal father also thanked president of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for coming to the aid of those that lost properties to the crises and called on Nigerians to refrain from the acts that can disintegrate the country. Speaking in a similar vein, Ooni Ogunwusi urged youths in the country not to make themselves tools of disruption in the hands of politicians, insisting that the country’s diversity is her strength and not weakness. In her remarks, the representative of President of Dangote Group, Mrs. Suera Yusuff, said 220 people were identified as victims of the clash.
