CRSG hails Ortom for taking care of its citizens taking refuge in Benue The government of Cross River, has commended Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue for providing security and shelter to members of two warring communities displaced in Cross River and taking refuge in Benue. The Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ortom, Mr Terver Akase, said this in a statement made available to the Newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi. The statement said that the Deputy Gov. of Cross River, Prof. Ivara Esu, made the commendation when he led a delegation from the state on a thank-you visit to Ortom. Esu described as laudable, Ortom’s magnanimity in receiving victims of the clashes between Wanihem and Wanikade communities of Yala Local Government Area who were currently taking refuge in Benue. He conveyed the appreciation of Gov. Ben Ayade who he said, had pledged to sustain the cordial relations between Cross River and Benue. Esu said that the recent signing of the anti-open grazing law by Ortom was a sure way to ending frequent attacks by herdsmen. Responding, Ortom thanked the Cross River Government for the visit and words of appreciation, describing the gesture as “encouraging.’’ He decried clashes between the two communities in Cross River at a time the people were expected to embrace peace and work towards preventing further loss of lives and property from attacks by herdsmen. Ortom noted that no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of insecurity and urged the warring communities to allow peace and harmony to prevail.   The post CRSG hails Ortom for taking care of its citizens taking refuge in Benue appeared first on Vanguard News.
